Who is responsible for the correctness of the data in the Dog's Register?
The responsible of the dog himself has to check the correctness of his personal data in the Dog's Register and has to report all changes and eventual correction.
Going on holiday with your dog. NOT WITHOUT ITS PASSPORT !!
Since 1st October 2004, you need to have a European passport to take your dog, cat, or ferret on your travels.
In Belgium, since 7th June 2004, dogs automatically receive a passport when they are given their identification.
In case of dogs registered before 7th June2004, your veterinarian can provide a passport.
What do I do if my dog is registered with DogID but has no passport, and I would like it to have one linked to its identification number ?
You go to your veterinarian who will give you immediately a passport for your dog.
Warning! For dogs identified and registered before 7th June 2004, the passport is only compulsory for dogs, which will be travelling.
What do I do if my dog dies?
You return the card entitled "Change of owner or change of address request - Notification of death" after entering the date of death.
What do I have to do if I change address ?
You return the card “Follow Change of owner or change of address request- Notification of death card” after completing your new address. You keep the passport. You receive a new card within 14 days.
Is my dog properly identified?
Your dog must be identified by an electronic chip (transponder). The electronic chip identification must be carried out by a vet.
A tattoo is the old methode of identification of a dog.
What does the Law say?
Since the 1st September 1998, the identification and registration of dogs is obligatory.
What this means is that:
- If a dog is born on your premises and you intend to keep it, you must have it identified and registered before it is 8 weeks old
- If you intend to sell or give away a dog of any ages, you must first have it identified and registered
- If you buy or are given a dog, it must first be given an identification number and be handed over complete with nits passport
Responsibility for reporting changes regarding the dog
The current dog responsible (seller…) is always responsible for reporting, to DogID, using the white card, change of address, change of dog’s responsible or the decease of the dog.
What do I do if my dog has a microchip or tattoo but isn't registered with DogID ?
You must get in touch with the vet to get him to send us the provisional identification and registration certificate.
What do I do if my dog is from a foreign country?
You must go to a vet to get your dog registered with DogID.
What do I do if my dog is lost or stolen ?
Notify DogID as soon as possible by calling +32 (0)2 333 92 22 between 8h and 20h.
